Today I am sharing all the Botox basics that one person needs to know!  As we all know, aging is a natural process that can’t be stopped, but why not try and slow it down 🙂

Doctors have been using Botox for years to successfully treat wrinkles, excessive sweating, migraines, etc.  The reason why Lindsay and I use it is to hopefully stay/look young forever.  By starting these types of treatments at a young age, we hope that the benefits will pay off in the long run.  Now you ask, how?

Botox injections temporarily relax – not freeze – the facial muscles that underline and cause wrinkles. So by continuing to do treatments, overtime the repeated muscle contractions will forget what they use to do!

Botox Basic Q & A’s

What is Botox?

It’s the only approved treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to sever frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults.

How much will I need?

This all depends on the individual and the severity of their lines/wrinkles.  Botox is offered by the unit.  See the chart below for average units.

How much does Botox cost?

The average price per unit depending on where you live is $9-$20 per unit.  The price we pay is $11-13 per unit.  There is also a program called Brilliant Distinctions that rewards  you with instant savings/coupons on asethetic treatments and products.  Make sure to ask your doctor if they are a provider and sign up- it’s FREE!

Does Botox hurt?

No, you feel a slight prick in the beginning but some places will give you topical numbing cream and ice packs to help.

Side effects/downtime with Botox?

Very minimal. Some people will bruise slightly where the injected site was but it should go away within a week.  Treatment requires minimal downtime or recovery- it’s often called a “lunchtime procedure.”  Make sure you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy.  If you’re local and need a fabulous place to go, visit Aurora Medical Spa because THEY DO AMAZING WORK and have friendliest staff who make you feel so comfortable and willing to answer any questions you have!

How long before Botox results can be seen?

Although some effects are noticed in 3-4 days, the peak effect is not until 10-14 days.  Since I’ve been getting Botox for a few years now, I almost notice it within a few days.

How long does Botox last?

The effects of Botox will last 3-6 months.  As the muscle action gradually returns, the lines/wrinkles begin to reappear and need to be treated again.  Since I’ve continued to get Botox I can now go almost 6 months until my next treatment.  Most people starting off will have to go every 3-4 months in the beginning.

Below are some before and after pics of me- I wish I had some old pics when I first stated because the results are significant!

Forehead Lines

Frown Lines

Growing up everyone I knew in high school went tanning.  We even applied baby oil on our bodies when “laying out” at the pool.  It kinda makes me sick to think of all the sun damage I did to my skin when I was younger and I am now seeing the aftermath in my early 30’s.  With that being said, I’ve really started to take skin care seriously and continue to prevent now what I wish I would have known 15 years ago!  Find more of my favorite anti-aging treatments here and skin care regimens here.
