The easier the DIY project the more likely I am to actually complete it! I’m obsessing over all the distressed jeansl, but I can hear my dad saying, “why pay for jeans with holes in them”. Hmmm he might have a point – diy distressed jeans here I come, so I decided to give it a try and it was so easy! (still buying a few for fall too)
I had a pair of jeans in the back of my closet that had a little tear in them so these were perfect!
Gather your “tools” for the project…
scissors
box cutter
sandpaper
tweezers
cardboard or magazine
The Slice Technique
Step 1: Place the cardboard between the two layers of denim so you do not cut the back of your jeans
Step 2: Start slicing horizontally…the best technique ended up being to slice about 1/2 inch apart and making the slices smaller as you go
Step 3: Pull the blue strands out from between your slices with your tweezers
Repeat
The Sandpaper Technique
Step 1: Rub the sandpaper horizontally
Step 2 : Wipe away the jean the has frayed off, you can try to pick it away with tweezers too
Repeat
I also cut off the bottom hem on the jeans- only tip here is to stay as close as possible to the hem line so you can keep your length
I was actually impressed, this project was so easy and quick. Let me know what you think!
If you need some inspiration or don’t have time for this project we will be posting our fav distressed jeans next week!

Looks great! I always think that if I were to try something like this, it wouldn’t turn out well, but yours came out really well! 🙂
I promise you it is so easy, try it with an old pair of jeans and start on the pocket then move to the knee area!
