Party season + house guest season has arrived. Having big families and the best friends, this tends to be year around for us. Every time I talk on IG about hosting a gathering I get lots of questions on how I pull it all off with two kids. Plan ahead – I’m not super woman!
Today I’m sharing some of my top tips that will help ensure you have a great party or guests for the weekend!
Make all the lists and delegate : Grocery list, drink list, food list, guests list, all the lists. Having a plan helps me for everything in my life, try marking off as many things a day or two before too! I usually use the notes in my phone so I always have my list and can easily add the hubs to it too!
Clean : This one is a terror, but I have to have my house clean a few days before or it kills all the last second planning! Make sure you aren’t just hiding clutter. When you need to find stuff again it will be missing. Cleaning to me includes catching up on laundry – nothing worse that getting ready to host a party and your fav Spanx are missing.
Post it Trick : This one is magical! The night before your party set all your bowls, ice buckets etc out and put post it notes all over. This is a great way to ensure you do not forget anything or if someone shows up early to help it is easy for them to read your notes!
Oven Check : How terrible would it be to have a house full of friends and family and your oven is SLOWLY cooking your dinner. It’s super easy to have Hoffman Brothers come and check your appliances a couple weeks before a party. Here is a quick video or follow the instructions below to make sure your oven is properly working.
- Buy a can of biscuits
- Bake them following the exact instructions on the container
- If they are cooked perfect, then your oven is good
If your biscuits are over or under cooked then you may need to call to get a quick repair and adjustment!
Entertainment: I always try to add a little fun to parties or have a special activity when guests come in town. For parties a few ideas include…setting up the projector outside for baseball games, roasting marshmallows for kiddos, Heads up, Cards Against Humanity, Pinterest is endless too!
Cocktails / Mocktails : Making sure you have drinks for everyone in the house young and old! I typically opt for throw away cups and pre-packaged kids drinks. With a big crowd the last thing I want to worry about is dishes! I try to have a fun mocktail ready for any friends that are expecting too. If guests will be in multiple areas of your home make a few drink stations.
Home Updates : Anyone else let little things slide by until the last second- just me? A “running toilet” , leaky faucet, outlet that isn’t working ? No need to continue to let these things go, call Hoffman Brothers and they can help fix your issues big or small before a party!
Snacks : From a dinner party to weekend guests I never want anyone to be hungry. Plan a few simple appetizers you can make ahead of time that will be ready. If guests are staying with you always make sure to show them where extra snacks are in the pantry.
The best thing to remember before any party is that if you forget to set something out, no one will notice. A last minuet run to the store for something isn’t a big deal either! Push all the big jobs to the professionals, Hoffman Brothers.
Then turn the music up, have fun and stay up too late!
