With the new year here, we’ve decided to get organized and stay that way! After the holidays, your home may feel a little “cluttered” and it’s somewhat daunting! Typically, in a cleaning rush, I will toss things in a drawer or cabinet that isn’t where it really should be. Clutter can definitely affect your mood. I know when my home is messy and disorganized it can lead to stress. I feel a sense of helplessness. Today, I am sharing a few quick and easy tricks to keep your home clutter free and clean for the new year.
I’d first recommend splitting your tasks by rooms. Do one room each day and don’t overdo it. Next question is how do I get rid of clutter?
- Have a garage sale
- Facebook swap sites
For each area I clean I sort stuff into bins of things I am keeping, but they need to get put back in their home. I have specific bins for myself, one for my husband, and bins for the kids. I started with my kitchen first. I take everything out of the drawers, so I can clean and wipe down drawers and start organizing. Taking everything out of my drawers, allows me to see everything I have. I was able to see that I didn’t need 4 pizza cutters, 5 spatulas and so on. By eliminating the “extras” it allows you to use everything you need/have. I also love lining my drawers with these before putting the utensils back in.

A few questions to ask yourself when the big clean-out starts are:
- Is the product expired
- Do you use it daily, weekly, monthly?
- When it comes to clothes my theory- one in, one out. Also, if I didn’t wear it last season, it’s getting donated!
Another thing I like to do at the start of a new year is clean, clean, clean. Yes, we “pickup” daily but there are things you can do as a maintenance. Thankfully Allstate has provided us with easy tips & tricks.
First up, the oven. Our oven gets used a lot and sometimes needs a good thorough cleaning. Here is an easy way you can clean it and bring back it’s shine.
Next, clean your washing machine. This is important because although it’s washing your clothes everyday they have a tendency to build up residue, trap odor and dirt. Click here to get all the details on how you should clean it and how often.
Another thing I like to do in January is clean my refrigerator. After all the holiday food and meals it needs a good clean out. I typically will remove all the food and create a cleaning mixture that I can wipe down the drawers and shelves with.
The last trick I am going to share has been a game changer. I’ve tried almost every product out there to get my shower and bath looking squeaky clean and nothing seems to work. The solution- LEMONS! It’s incredible how quickly the soap scum disappears with this easy hack!
We hope these easy tips and tricks help you start the new year off right!
